Learning Projects: ID and Adult Learning

The projects shared on this page are ones I completed while working on my master's degree at the University of Colorado Denver. Each project meets one or more of the ILT Competencies.

  1. Reflective practice. Adopt a critical stance toward your work, promoting effective practice and responsible use of technology.

  2. Technology. Become competent and confident in the use of various tools and technologies, related to learning, communication, and making things.

  3. Learning and instruction. Drawing on learning and instructional theory, create instruction with well-aligned outcomes, activities, and assessments.

  4. Creative and social media. Demonstrate proficiency with tools, platforms, and environments in the creation of media resources for learning and knowledge construction.

  5. Inquiry and change. Engage in systematic processes of inquiry and change.

  6. Professional learning and leadership. Demonstrate a commitment to lifelong learning and leadership within the profession.

INTE 5100: Planning and Designing for Instruction

This course asked groups to view possible topics on the United Nations website that could lead to learning. As a group, we decided on a topic, and we began to develop a design plan. Each week we added to our plan, until in the end, we had a full design plan. While we did not need to implement our plan, our group's research led to a comprehensive plan that could be implemented if necessary. In the end, we developed a short video summarizing our project.

PLN: Composition & Rhetoric

INTE 5665: Social Media and Digital Cultures

I developed a Google+ Community for my students to have more resources in their freshmen composition courses. Unfortunately, Google removed the Google + Community, and therefore this is no longer available. It was a place where students could ask questions and learn by becoming part of a discussion regarding class materials. For my initial goals regarding my PLN, please read my Implementation Plan.

INTE 5670: Webinars and eLearning Events

The first project I completed in this course was a 25-minute synchronous webinar. I presented ideas of how Google Docs can be used in a collaborative setting. I utilized Zoom as the synchronous tool to present my event. I learned different teaching techniques worked (or didn't) while using Zoom at the same time as Google Documents and Google Presentations. I also provided handouts for my viewers: my presentation and a shared file for collaboration

INTE 5670: Webinars and eLearning Events

The second project in Webinars and eLearning Events was a group project where my group members and I created and presented a 45-minute synchronous webinar. As a group, our task was to teach a lesson about a collaborating tool on the internet. We decided to teach Google Drive based tools and focused on Folders, Documents, Sheets, and Slides. Then, during our presentation, we provided a handout for learners to follow along.

INTE 5680: Media & Mobile Devices

In Media & Mobile Devices, I had the opportunity to work with different media creation tools that work well with mobile devices. The project above is an example of images I took and then combined, edited, and overlayed with text and music through the use iMovies.

INTE 5830: Info-Learning Tech Workshop

In this course, one of the ways I learned about learning via games was by playing games and assessing how a person can learn to play the game, can learn through the game, and/or can learn through others within the game. While I documented the games I played (some of them were games I had already played, but the majority of them were ones I had not), I learned to become both a learner and educator through a different method. Playing with kids and adults, I realized that through games, learning is always happening.

INTE 5830: Info-Learning Tech Workshop

In Info-Learning Tech Workshop, I learned about games in education. For the final project of the course, the instructor asked the class to develop a video detailing our experience in and analysis of learning in an online community.  The online community I chose to participate in was for the mobile game Game of War.

INTE 6710: Creative Designs and Instructional Materials

When creating the infographic in this course, I was able to use CARP to place the content and determine colors and readability. Plus, I was able to use GIMP to design and develop images for the content. While working toward the completion of the infographic, I developed a design document explaining the decisions I made while creating it.

INTE 6710: Creative Designs and Instructional Materials

I fell the pecha kucha was the most important, challenging, and enjoyable project for me. I tend to elaborate on a topic, but this assignment required I cut my initial 15 minute script to 6:40 minutes, requiring me to consider what information was most important. I was able to use photography, hand made art work, and GIMP to create the different pages. Plus, the use of creating audio in GarageBand and importing it into iMovies to make the video had me using a lot of tools that I still use. In the end, I also developed a design document that explains decisions I made while making the video.

INTE 6720: Research in Learning Design & Technology

In this course, I spent a lot of time researching the topic of television and literature. Through my research, I learned different ways television is used to educate, but most importantly, I learned that there is not a lot of research on television as literature. Therefore, this a great topic for me to delve deeper into through my own surveys and studies. After completing the written document, I created a short video summarizing my findings.

INTE 6750: eLearning Trends & Issues

I created this Prezi presentation as part of a group project. As a team, my group and I mapped out trends in e-learning, both past and present, along with current trend leaders.
